DREAM JOB

What do you do in Singer job?

Singers use their skills to entertain. Some perform on stage in front of live audiences; others record their voices for television, films, and CDs. They interpret music by using their knowledge of voice production, melody, harmony, and rhythm. Many singers teach voice either through private lessons or in school programs.

There are as many fields for singers as there are kinds of entertainment. Classical singers are categorized by their voice range, usually as soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone, or bass. Most often, they perform in operas or musicals and may be part of a choral group. Classical singers sometimes perform in concerts or nightclub acts, movies, television, and radio.

Popular singers perform different types of music such as jazz, rock, blues, folk, ethnic, or country and western. Some are lead singers or members of a group. They may accompany themselves on an instrument such as a guitar or piano or sing with a band or orchestra. Popular singers perform on stage, in musicals, on television, in nightclubs, and in television commercials. Most singers of sacred music sing in religious institutions, either solo or in a choral group. They may also perform on television or radio or in concert. Besides performing, singers spend much of their time taking lessons, practicing, and rehearsing.

What educational background do you need to get the Singer job?

· Training and Education

Back-up singers have to know how to sing just as well as lead singers. All professional singers, even those with natural talent, need to have formal training in voice and vocal pedagogy. This is especially true for those seeking to sing with a Christian music group. Many Christian bands utilize the gospel style of singing, which can be very taxing on the voice. A back-up singer might be expected to perform solo parts, and having control of the voice is vital for this.
Education can be in the form of voice lessons from a professional singer and/or completing a college degree at a music school.

· Experience

Beyond formal training, becoming a Christian back-up singer requires experience. The aspiring singer should sing every chance he or she gets---in school, at church or in the community. Singing with a church choir is especially desirable when trying to build a portfolio to submit to a Christian group because it shows that you are familiar with that style of music.
In addition to singing with a choir, you can gain experience by singing for social functions such as weddings and funerals. Not only does experience strengthen your voice, it helps you meet people that you can network with.

· Location

At some point, you will need to put yourself in an area where there are a lot of Christian singers. One of the biggest centers of Christian music is Nashville, Tennessee. Because the competition here is fierce, you will need to be able to dedicate most of your time to promoting yourself and getting yourself seen and heard. The best way to enable yourself to do this is to save enough money to live on for an extended period of time. If you have to work full time doing a nonsinging related job, you will have a very tough time succeeding.

· Be Prepared to Succeed

When an opportunity presents itself, you will want to be ready with a demo. Ideally, you should have several copies of a good-quality CD showcasing your vocal range and abilities. Since you desire to sing for a Christian group, your demo should feature only Christian music. The disks should all be labeled with your contact information to make it easy for the interested party to call you.

What stages do you need to go through Singer job?

1. Learn how to sing. This is the foundation of your career as a singer. While there are some performers making a career out of singing when they don't really sing all that well, it's those people who have their craft as singers and continually improve their form and ability who command the most respect as singers.

2. Study singers whom you admire. How do they sing? How did they become professional singers? What kind of crowd do they cater too? What is their signature style? Don't totally copy them though, singers have to be unique!

3. Begin taking voice lessons. Having a voice coach can really train your voice and, if you practice, you will notice marked vocal improvement within a few weeks. Voice training is important in strength and overall quality of your voice. You can also damage your voice if you aren't singing properly. Find which note your voice is most comfortable singing at and sing there a lot. Its also important to at least know the basics in playing an instrument, particularly the guitar or piano. Even if you cannot play it well, you must have some knowledge of notes and tuning. This will help you to evaluate your singing skills and provide instrumental accompaniment.

4. Become comfortable as a performer. Get over your stage fright (if you have it) and start gaining some practical experience by singing wherever and whenever you get a chance to do so in front of a group of people (karaoke bars, parties, school talent shows, etc.). Connect with your listeners. Most towns have talent shows and singing contests.

5. Develop your own style. Experiment with different ways of singing and different types of music and find one that fits your personality and makes the most of your voice at the same time. You want people to be able to recognize your voice when they hear it.

6. Gather up the courage to sing karaoke at a local bar. Pick a song that fits your vocal range well and practice, practice, practice! When you feel you're ready, sing your heart out.

7. Get known. Start your career by getting on Youtube, and getting in newspapers. Create Twitter, MySpace music, and Facebook accounts promoting your singing as well. You need a good fan base at the least so your albums will sell!

8. Write songs. It's expensive to buy songs from other people and not the best idea for a new singer. Don't try to just sit down and write a song. When you have something that happened that is major/important in your life, hum heartfelt words to an original tune. Grab your guitar, piano, or whatever instrument you play and start writing!

9. Make sure you go to a recording studio and make a demo CD before you wrap yourself up in a major production. If someone ever were to find you online and wanted to hear more, you'd be able to give them a sample.

10. Make sure you have your own microphone. Maybe two, try to get good quality ones. This is good for recording at home if you cannot afford a studio or if you are making a YouTube video.

  1. Sing a note and see how long you can hold it.
  2. Breathe from your diaphragm. Don't ever breathe in through your nose, it will make it harder to reach high notes. Work on breathing with your body and strengthing your diaphragm.
  3. Test breathing through your diaphragm. Bend over at the waist and sing. Notice the feeling in your stomach and the sound that you create.
  4. Warm up for a while before starting to sing. This produces a richer sound as opposed to sounding strained. (i.e. when you blow up a balloon, it is much easier to stretch the balloon before blowing it up. Your vocal chords function in much the same way.)
  5. Find songs that are in your voice range.
  6. Start practicing scales and slowly increase the pitch each run. Eventually you will have a higher range and a stronger voice.
  7. Using your thumb, push the larynx from side to side gently, allowing your vocal chords to loosen, thereby putting less stress on them when you begin to sing.
  8. Find a quiet place inside of you and just let the voice you found out.

Importan: At the the high notes you must push down to the belly and from the belly to your knees and in the belly also to whole sides down (you must have a backward feeling when you jump from low to up), the larynx must not move when you go from the lower notes to the upper notes (to avoid of crack)-but subjectively you feel when you go up the larynx you push down (this feeling is caused that you are stretching your muscules in the larynx to not move). Your soft pallate must be up and your jaw must hang down freely without pushing.

What problems or troubles you probably have in Singer job?

· Stage fright

Start with something not too scary. Like singing for your younger sister or your best friend. Or even singing by yourself and taping it and playing it for someone. You do have to get over stage fright if you are going to sing for a living.

· My throat starts to constrict after I've been singing for an hour or so and it gets scratchy.

You are using muscles in your throat and neck to control the sound and that is causing that feeling of scratchiness. It will also wear out your voice in the long term. The best solution is to see a voice teacher. They can watch and listen to you sing and help you to figure out what muscles you are using that you shouldn't be and how to sing properly. You should know how to breathe (look at me website on the articles pages for information on this) and how to use your diaphragm.

· Losing your voice from singing incorrectly or damage it. That's only weakness really.

What advantages do you get by having the job?

· Disadvantages:

-If you're famous, you will have to "reject" your real life ... and live a life that you will not be alone, will be things that come and go ... and when you are old and forgoten, you will see where the "right" you fans ...

In other words ... famous will make you live how other people will want to be ... not like you would want it ... depends from case to case it ...

-but if you mean like a superstar. possible bad publicity and never have your personal life.

· Advantages:

-You will get an invitation to the selected places, met many people who can help you in the future ... and lead a life of star.
